Casa Q is a nonprofit organization based in Albuquerque, New Mexico that provides safe living options, housing, and supportive services specifically for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. It focuses on creating a welcoming environment where young people can be themselves while receiving comprehensive care and support.

Casa Q’s mission is to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth and allies, typically ages 14 to 22, who are facing housing instability, discrimination, or family rejection. The organization aims to foster resilience, self-determination, and community connection for every young person it serves.

Residential Shelter for Youth (Ages 14–17)

  • Casa Q operates a licensed multi-service home where LGBTQ+ youth ages 14 to 17 can live in a home-like environment rather than a traditional emergency shelter.
  • Residents receive individualized case management, access to educational support, life skills development, mental health referrals, and community engagement activities.
  • The program supports both short- and long-term stays based on need, and is designed to help youth stabilize their lives and prepare for future independence.

Transitional Living Program (TLP) for Young Adults (Ages 18–22)

  • Casa Q also operates a Transitional Living Program for LGBTQ+ young adults ages 18 to 22 who need housing support and assistance transitioning into independent adulthood.
  • This program places participants in off-site apartments (often up to 12–24 months) with intensive case management, including life skills training, education support, mental health evaluations, and identity-affirming programming.

Case Management and Support Services

  • Across its programs, Casa Q offers comprehensive case management focused on each individual’s goals. This may include education planning, employment support, healthcare referrals, and counseling connections.
  • The organization emphasizes cultural competency, affirming care, and community building to help youth develop confidence, stability, and long-term wellbeing.

Casa Q is often described as not just a shelter but a long-term supportive community where youth can find acceptance and develop tools for independence.

We serve young people statewide and are recognized as the only LGBTQ+ specific housing program of its type in New Mexico.
